Among other things, those affected have problems with eating, sleeping, and maintaining social contacts. Depression can last for years and lead to a massive reduction in quality of life.

Causes of depression

A combination of different factors facilitates the development of depression. For example, severe strokes of fate or pregnancy can play a role in the development of psychological problems.

Apart from that, however, specific genes also have a considerable influence on how high the individual’s risk of developing depression is. Therefore, a genetic test that examines the gene variations that are relevant in this context can be useful and help to counteract this risk at an early stage.

How our Depression Sensor works

For our Depression Sensor, our laboratory performs a comprehensive analysis of the sample sent to us. Eight genetic variations that play a role in depression are investigated.

We use the results to determine how likely a patient is to develop depression and whether antidepressant treatment is promising.

After a successful analysis, we prepare a detailed written report. In this report, we clearly explain how the individual risks are assessed and which preventive measures make sense.
