Drugs do not all work for all in the same way
Ideally, a drug helps to treat disease and cure the patient. However, as enormous as medical progress has been in recent decades, two people may react differently to taking the same drug.
While one patient benefits considerably from the medication, another may suffer from severe side effects, some of which can even be life-threatening.
Causes of differences in the effects of a drug
The reason why drugs are tolerated differently by different people lies in the genes. Some genetic defects can lead to a drug not working properly or not being tolerated.
This risk should not be underestimated, given that adverse drug reactions are the fifth most common cause of death in Western countries. An analysis of the relevant genes in this context helps to avoid potential problems in the first place and to ensure optimal treatment success.
How our Pharmaco Sensor works
As part of our Pharmaco Sensor, we carry out a comprehensive analysis of the sample sent to our laboratory. We investigate more than 70 genetic variations that play a role in the efficacy and tolerability of drugs.
This enables us to evaluate the efficacy and possible intolerances of over 2,000 common drugs based on a patient’s genetic profile.
Once the study is complete, we prepare a written evaluation with our results and the recommendations based on them.
In this way, our Pharmaco Sensor can reliably help to assess the risk of side effects and identify drugs that are unsuitable for a patient.
